DAY 1 - MARRAKECH AIRPORT TO AÏT BEN HADDOU​

 

Across the High Atlas

• Meet Elen & Baha at Marrakech Airport

• Begin our journey south across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains

• Stop for lunch and beautiful views along the way

• Arrive in Aït Ben Haddou and settle into our accommodation

• Time to relax and explore after the journey

• Dinner and overnight in Aït Ben Haddou

DAY 2 — AÏT BEN HADDOU, SKOURA & DADÈS

 

Kasbahs, palms & local life

• Explore the ancient ksar of Aït Ben Haddou

• Continue through southern Morocco to the palm-filled oasis of Skoura

• Visit the historic Kasbah Amridil

• Share lunch with a local family

• Try a traditional pottery experience

• Cycle through the palms and villages of the Skoura oasis

• Continue to the beautiful Dadès Valley

• Dinner and overnight in Boumalne Dadès

DAY 3 — DADÈS TO THE SAHARA

 

Monkey Fingers & Baha’s home village

• Breakfast in the Dadès Valley

• Meet our local guide for a 3-hour Monkey Fingers hike

• Walk through dramatic rock formations, canyon landscapes and traditional villages

• Lunch after the walk

• Continue towards the Sahara

• Stop in Merzane, Baha’s home village

• Meet local people, share tea and experience a little of everyday life in this part of Morocco

• Continue to Merzouga and the dunes of Erg Chebbi

• Dinner and overnight at our Sahara hotel

DAY 4 — NEW YEAR’S EVE IN THE SAHARA

 

Local life, music, camels & New Year under the stars

• Wake up already in the Sahara

• Enjoy a relaxed breakfast

• Visit Khemliya and experience traditional Gnaoua music

• Enjoy M’founa, the traditional local Berber pizza, for lunch

• Time to explore the desert

• Optional quad biking for those who want a little more adventure

• Late afternoon camel trek into the dunes

• Watch the final sunset of 2026 over the Sahara

• Arrive at our desert camp

• New Year’s Eve dinner

• Music and celebrations around the fire

• Welcome 2027 under the Sahara stars

• Overnight in our desert camp

DAY 5 — NEW YEAR’S DAY IN THE SAHARA

 

A very slow start to 2027

• No early start today

• Optional sunrise for the early risers

• Enjoy a long, leisurely breakfast at camp

• Try sandboarding in the dunes

• Relax and enjoy the desert

• Leave camp when we’re ready and transfer to our Sahara hotel

• Free afternoon to relax, enjoy the hotel and spend time together

• No organised activities — today is deliberately slow

• Overnight at our Sahara hotel

DAY 6 — RISSANI & THE SAHARA

​

Market day & one last desert adventure

• Relaxed breakfast

• Head to Rissani for its traditional market

• Wander through the souks and experience a very different side of everyday Moroccan life

• Lunch in the area

• Return to the Sahara

• Free afternoon to enjoy however you choose

• Optional quad biking, fossils, walking in the dunes or simply relaxing at the hotel

• Final dinner and evening together in the Sahara

• Overnight at our Sahara hotel

DAY 7 — SAHARA TO ERRACHIDIA AIRPORT

 

One last morning in the desert

• Breakfast at the hotel

• Enjoy a final morning in the Sahara

• Leave Merzouga for Errachidia

• Drop-off at Errachidia Airport

• End of your Kaouki Tours adventure

This is our planned itinerary for 28 December 2026 – 3 January 2027. As with all Kaouki Tours journeys, we travel at a relaxed pace and can adapt activities to suit the families travelling with us.
